Marina Ester CastaldoT:How you started your illustration journey?
M:When I was a child I spent the majority of my time drawing. I loved watercolours and pencils and always dreamed about doing that my entire life. I remember painting on everything was feasible to do so like walls, tissues and even leaves and flowers. Growing up I made different choices for my career but in 2016 I decided to change my life and do what really makes me happy: create and draw a more colourful world. So I moved from Italy to London and started studying as designer.
T:Where did you get your inspiration from?
M:I’m largely influenced by my love for the nature. Trees, plants, flowers, mountains and oceans are elements you can find often in my illustrations. I literally adore taking photos of clouds, staring at the sky laying on the grass, looking from the base to the top of the biggest trees I can find on my path. I’ve always been fascinated by the shapes and colours that exist naturally in this world.
T:How did you develop your signature style and approach?
M:My approach has always been really spontaneous and natural. When I start drawing I never have a clear image in my mind of what I’ll create. I just love leaving the creativity working for me. I choose shapes and colours paying attention on what I feel in that exact moment. I think this is the reason why my signature style is made of a lot of abstract lines and very contrasting colours.
